White Holes

1/6/2008

Einstein's theory of general relativity allows for the
existence of a phenomenon that is the antithesis of
a black hole - a white hole

While a black hole acts as an absorber for any matter
that crosses the event horizon, a white hole acts as
a source that ejects matter from its event horizon.

-Wikipedia

Encarta defines a white hole as a,

hypothetical region in space from which stars, light, and other forms of energy emerge explosively

the clip below, an excerpt from the History Channel's
Universe series, has this to say about the hypothet-
ical phenomenon

If nature uses white holes, physicists speculate that they could have been an important element the earliest stages of the universe. Maybe even in the formation of the universe itself.
