Beatles Mashups

5/8/2009

From the Beatles Love site,

After being asked by the remaining Beatles,
Ringo and Paul, along with Yoko Ono Lennon
and Olivia Harrison, to make experimental mixes
from their master tapes for a collaboration with
Cirque de Soleil, Sir George Martin, The Beatles
legendary producer, and his son Giles Martin
have been working with the entire archive of
Beatles recordings to create LOVE.

The result is an unprecedented approach to
the music. Using the master tapes at Abbey
Road Studios, Sir George and Giles have
created a unique soundscape.

The release of this 2-LP set, which is also
featured in the Cirque du Soleil/Apple Corps
collaborative production of the same name
at The Mirage in Las Vegas, has been much
anticipated.

In other words, George and Giles Martin
cut and pasted Beatles master tapes to
produce a 2-LP set of Fab Four mashups.

Here's a sample,

A few questions to ponder -

What's your reaction to a Beatles
mashup?

How might you react to a mashup
of Da Vinci paintings or Michelangelo
sculptures?

Is this kind of thing "art"; and
if so, who is the artist?

Does any of this really matter?

Perhaps digital mashups are valid
form of 21st century, postmodern art
that our 20th century minds will
soon assimilate.
