or maybe,we sometimes we get stuck at a particular age,menatally,or emotionally,for whatever reason,and thats what we refer back to in times of cricic.or happiness or fear,whichever emotion is the stongest at present.when did we feel the most safe?the happiest/the most content?it would seem wed always be striving to get back there.

Or maybe marking our own mental development with an arbitary figure gained by how long it takes the rock we're standing on to swing around the nearest star as subjective as the entire personal deveolpment of ones self being measured againt that of the considered socological norm.
