To Open Up And Discover

7/7/2010

Is this just poetry? Is it fanciful, wishful thinking?
Or is it the case that deep within each of us,
there are treasures to be discovered?

after a line from Henry Miller's
Sexus: The Rosy Crucifixion I

Fir-! Ahem, sorry. I really like this quote because it echos my own findings in the are of self-discovery. We all want the same thing, and that's to be heard, but in hearing ourselves we take the power back from those we gave it too. In essence finding there is nothing new under the sun, our dramas have no weight, and there is a very real issue that needs attention when we start listening.

Why discover what is already there?

If this is poetry, it's very bad poetry. The scansion is empty, the vocabulary banal, and there is a complete lack of poetic devices. So I'll look at it from a different perspective: We do not all spring from the same proximate source, and modern genetics recognises that this accounts for all our potential. Which aspects of our potential we develop has little to do with "opening up" (whatever that means) and a lot to do with the circumstances of our experiences during development. I realize that my perspective at the moment is scientific. I tried to see this as art, and perhaps the failure is mine but I couldn't.

@vague truth Your obviously closed minded and are confusing science with ignorance. I find your lack of understanding disturbing. I personally believe this accounts for the unlimited potential of every person.

Yes, all of us are kings, poets, musicians, whatever. Unfortunately, most of us are really bad ones, as Mr. Miller so obligingly demonstrates.
