"meditation" can be defined as, "the intentional and sustained
focusing of attention";

and the various forms of meditation are differentiated by the
object upon which attention is focused

in "Open Focus" meditation the object of attention is
EVERYTHING -

everything internal and external, everything in the foreground
and in the background;

with a wide open focus, one attends to everything simultaneously

here's how it is described,

In practicing open focus meditation we meditate with
our eyes open. And our concentration object is everything . . .

We concentrate on everything we see, touch, smell, taste
or listen and what passes through our minds . . .

In the normal perception state our selective attention
jumps from one object to another. Here we try to give
attention to everything . . .

benefits of widening our habitually narrow focus of attention
