Wikipedia imageNicolaus Cusanus (1401-1464) was a philosopher,
mathematician, astronomer and Church Cardinal
he is widely considered to be one of the greatest
thinkers of 15th century
amongst his achievements is a mathematical paradox
known as
The Infinite Circlethe paradox can be stated as follows:
as the diameter of a circle
increases, the curvature
of a given length of its circumference
decreases
and from this it follows that a circle as large as the
Earth would seem to have no curvature, it would
seem to be a straight line;
and a circle of infinite size would have no curvature
at all, it would be a straight line
