here, she recounts the the failed interview with
French President Nicolas Sarkozy

you may recall that Mr. Sarkozy terminated the
interview when Ms. Stahl asked,

It seems that every day we are hearing another
story about your wife. What's going on?

the question related to ongoing rumors about the
Sarkozys' marital difficulties; and 60 Minutes
apparently felt that questions about their guest's
personal problems were not off-limits

in fact, in the piece Ms. Stahl says,

the day we interviewed him, Paris was buzzing with
rumors that she had left him - again; but ask him
about it - How dare you!

How dare you! would seem to be a reasonable
question; what is the justification for asking anyone,
let alone a visiting head of state, to discuss rumored
or real personal problems before an audience of
millions?

further, if President Sarkozy had agreed to answer
Ms. Stahl's "What's going on?", where would have
her line of questioning gone?

where would she have drawn the line between what
is public and what is private and off-limits?

where do you draw that line?
