"I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974."

I wish to be more understanding of the pains trans-people go through. But on the other hand, I know it is a disorder of the mind. How can I accept a life ruined, knowing it could have been saved without hacking at the heart and cutting of the flesh? I fear that at some point, we sacrificed reason at the altar of acceptance.
